Why Participate?

ASAP/After School Activities Partnerships’ mission is to develop high quality after school activities and resources to empower youth and strengthen communities in Philadelphia. In the 2017-18 school year, ASAP served more than 5,000 youth through four citywide initiatives—chess, debate, drama and Scrabble.

Walking or Running with ASAP helps to ensure that the youth of Philadelphia have access to enriching after school activities, with a special emphasis on schools with the greatest needs. At ASAP, we believe that after school is not just a time when kids get to BE themselves it is a time they get to BECOME themselves through enriching experiences.

Tell your story. Build your team. Speak your mind. Make your move.

Keep youth safe & engaged after school with ASAP.

How Your Support Makes a Difference

Why support? ASAP serves youth attending traditional Philadelphia neighborhood public and charter schools (grades K-12), where it is estimated that 81% of students come from circumstances of poverty. According to recent Philadelphia School District data, 60% of traditional public and public charter school 3rd graders do not read on grade level; 37% of the city’s youth are chronically absent from school; and only 65% of youth graduate high school in four years. ASAP works to combat these trends everyday by providing free and safe opportunities during the out-of-school time to keep youth engaged and learning. ASAP found that:

  • 82% of students reported that they are at better at focusing since they started playing ASAP Chess
  • 94% of students reported that ASAP Debate helps them with their listening comprehension
  • 92% of students agreed that ASAP Drama club was a meaningful experience that provided a sense of belonging at their school

  • 86% of students agreed playing ASAP Scrabble has improved their vocabulary
